The reassuring truth is that, once you\u2019re medically stable, gentle, guided movement is not only safe for most people with heart failure, it\u2019s one of the most effective treatments to help you feel better, breathe easier, and regain confidence.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Below is a calming, step\u2011by\u2011step script you can read aloud (or have a loved one read to you). It blends reassurance with a safe, practical way to begin moving again. Please use it alongside your clinician\u2019s advice and stop if you notice warning signs (listed at the end).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1) Settle your body and mind (2\u20133 minutes)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sit comfortably in a chair with your feet flat on the floor. Place one hand on your chest and one on your belly.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Say to yourself: \u201cMy heart has been through a lot. It\u2019s okay to feel scared. Fear is my body trying to protect me.\u201d\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Breathe in slowly through your nose for 4 seconds, letting your belly rise. Breathe out through your mouth for 6 seconds, letting your belly fall. Repeat 6\u20138 times.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remind yourself: \u201cI don\u2019t have to do everything today. I just need to start small and be kind to my body.\u201d\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2) Reassuring facts to hold in mind<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201cAfter a heart failure exacerbation, guidelines recommend waiting until I\u2019m stable, then starting very light activity and building up gradually.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cExercise training is a Class IA recommendation for heart failure\u2014meaning strong evidence shows it improves symptoms, fitness, and quality of life when done correctly.\u201d\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cStarting at low intensity (even 40% of my peak capacity) and progressing slowly is the safest approach.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cCardiac rehab programs exist specifically to help people like me regain confidence and move safely.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3) Check you\u2019re ready today (quick safety screen)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before any movement, ask:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Am I free of new\/worsening chest pain, severe breathlessness at rest, faintness, or fever?\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Has my weight been stable (no sudden gain >1.8 kg in 1\u20133 days)?\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do I feel generally well-rested and not acutely unwell? If \u201cyes,\u201d proceed gently.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4) Warm<\/strong>\u2011<strong>up: wake up the body (5\u201310 minutes)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Goal: raise heart rate and blood flow gradually; avoid dizziness&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Seated marching: lift knees alternately, 30\u201360 seconds. Rest 30 seconds. Repeat 2\u20133 times.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ankle pumps and circles: 20\u201330 reps each foot, several times daily.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Shoulder rolls and gentle arm swings: 10 slow rolls forward\/back.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stand up and sit down from a chair 3\u20135 times, using arms for support as needed. Self\u2011check: You should be able to talk in full sentences. If you\u2019re too breathless to speak comfortably, slow down or stop.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>5) First steps of aerobic movement (start with 5\u201310 minutes)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Choose one low\u2011impact option you enjoy:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Indoor hallway walking, or\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stationary cycling at very light resistance, or\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Slow walking around the block with a companion Pace guide (Borg effort scale 6\u201320): aim for 11\u201313 (\u201clight to somewhat hard\u201d), where you can still talk.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Minute 1\u20132: very easy pace.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Minute 3\u20138: steady but comfortable pace.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Minute 9\u201310: ease back toward very easy. If 10 minutes feels like too much today, do 3\u20135 minutes and stop while you still feel good. Consistency matters more than duration at first\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>6) Cool<\/strong>\u2011<strong>down and gentle stretch (5\u201310 minutes)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do not stop abruptly\u2014this can make you lightheaded&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Slow walk in place or gentle stepping for 3\u20135 minutes.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Calf, hamstring, and chest stretches: hold each 15\u201320 seconds, 2 rounds.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Finish with 1\u20132 minutes of the same slow breathing you used at the start.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>7) How to progress safely over weeks<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Use the FITT idea (Frequency, Intensity, Time, Type) and increase only one factor at a time.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Week 1: 5\u201310 minutes, 1\u20132 times\/day, most days.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Week 2: add 2\u20135 minutes per session if you feel stable.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Weeks 3\u20134: build toward 20\u201330 minutes\/session, 3\u20135 days\/week, still at light \u2013 moderate effort Long\u2011term goal (when cleared): about 150 minutes\/week of moderate aerobic activity, plus light strength work as advised\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>8) What to do if anxiety spikes during movement<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pause, sit, and place a hand on your belly.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Breathe in 4 seconds, out 6 seconds, for 1\u20132 minutes.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Say: \u201cThis feeling is uncomfortable, not dangerous. I\u2019m allowed to go slower. My heart is designed to handle gentle movement.\u201d\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Resume at a lower pace or end the session\u2014both are successes.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>9) Red flags: when to stop and seek help<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stop exercise and contact your care team (or emergency services if severe) if you notice:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Chest pain\/pressure, or pain spreading to arm\/jaw\/back\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Severe or worsening shortness of breath that doesn\u2019t ease with rest\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dizziness, fainting, or near\u2011fainting\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A racing or irregular heartbeat that feels new or alarming\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sudden swelling, rapid weight gain, or needing many more pillows to breathe at night\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>10) A closing affirmation to carry with you<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI am allowed to move again. Small, steady steps help my heart recover.
